This is my very first post as part of the WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge and I couldn’t be more excited about it. Even though my blog isn’t about photography, it is something I’ve enjoyed as a hobby since I was a very young girl.
This is a photo taken at a restaurant my husband and I enjoy in Downtown Los Angeles called Rosa Mexicano. The back wall is a blue tile waterfall-type structure with ceramic cliff divers attached at various heights. I’m not sure which I enjoy more, the margaritas or the waterfall structure, but I can say I enjoy the waterfall structure even more after a couple margaritas.
This photo embodies contrast to me in that one diver is white on a black background, while another is black on a white background. The texture of the tile plays with light and shadow creating a visually pleasing contrasted pattern.
The contrast of this photo also stands out to me in that it represents a common practice. Not all of us are daredevils who find the idea of leaping from tall objects appealing. Skydiving, bungee jumping, cliff diving and the like aren’t usually what I personally think of when I want to have a bit of an adventure. But these activities (and their tame counterparts) represent a contrast that keep our lives interesting, that refresh us, that can help refocus us on the day-to-day. A break from the routine is a contrast that I dare say is universally enjoyed.
Because of our routines, we forget that life is an ongoing adventure.
